DAMASCUS, (ST)- Prime Minister Imad Khamis and the Indian Ambassador in Damascus Man Mohan Bhanot held talks on Sunday on boosting economic ties based on the a government program for cooperation particularly in the area of electric power.
The premier expressed Syria’s appreciation over the Indian republic’s support for Syria in its war against terrorism and at the international level.
Khamis said the two sides agreed on activating the work of the Syrian-Indian joint committee to serve the mutual interest of the two countries.
He hailed the Indian ambassador’s efforts to boost economic and industrial cooperation between the two countries.
On his part, the Indian Ambassador hailed the Syrian government’s efforts to consolidate strong coordination and cooperation at the political and economic level, stressing his openness to all ideas put forward by the Syrian government in this regard.
Syria and India had signed several cooperation agreements including agriculture, scholarships, investment. The Syrian Investment Agency has recently proposed forming a joint economic committee aiming to study investment opportunities in Syria and the issue of establishing a Syria-Indian Business Council to discuss ways of reactivating cooperation.
