Syria: Imposing New Sanctions on Iran Part of US Policy to Undermine Region’s Security and Stability

DAMASCUS, (ST)-  The Syrian Arab Republic  has condemned the American administration’s decision to impose a new package of US sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran as of November 5.

An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement to SANA that Syria sees in the new US procedure a bid by the US administration to continue its policy of undermining the region’s security and stability.

The US decision again reflects the United States’ Failure to implement its pledges in the light of the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA) agreed upon by Iran and the P5+1 powers and approved by the Security Council’s Resolution No. 2231 in 2015, said the source.

The source expresses Syria’s strong rejection of the US administration’s policy of imposing unilateral coercive measures against the countries which refuse to surrender to its dictates, noting that such a policy violates the UN Charter, the International Law and the multi-party trade system and worsens the humanitarian suffering of the peoples targeted by these measures.

The pointed out that the US unilateral coercive measures have recently targeted many countries in the world with complete disrespect for moral values.

“The Syrian Arab Republic voices its full solidarity and support for the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the confrontation of the US policies and it is confident that the new sanctions will strengthen the determination of the Iranian people and government to resist and foil the US immoral policies which go against the interests of the peoples of the region and the world,” the source concluded.
