Syria, IECD Sign MOU to Increase Cooperation in Social Care Programs

DAMASCUS,(ST)_Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and European Institute for Cooperation and Development (IECD) signed Monday a Memorandum of Understanding on enhancing joint cooperation in the field of social care programs in Syria.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the MOU  provides for cooperation in fields of technical support, building and developing capabilities, early recovery of affected persons, social care programs and the empowerment of the most vulnerable.

 This cooperation will help develop society at the stage of recovery, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Rema Qadri told journalist after the signing ceremony.

While Director of the IECD in Syria Nidal Bitar said that the institute focuses on working with youths in order to improve their living conditions in 6 provinces .

“The largest proportion of beneficiaries are those who live in temporary shelters,” he added, pointing out that youths centers in Sweida province and in Jaramana city in Damascus countryside province hold training courses including 16 crafts.

The centers, which are the most important projects carried out by the IECD, also work in the field of Child Protection and ‘Josor ‘ project that targets 1500 beneficiaries.

“The project of training youths on how to help the elderly is one of the most important projects of the institute,” Bitar said,  indicating that 85% of trainees were immediately employed.

Last March, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society signed a MOU to organize cooperation in educational, cultural, social and humanitarian fields.
