Syria, ICRC Humanitarian Cooperation Stressed

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Kinda al- Shammat stressed  ministry’s keenness to continue coordination and cooperation with the International Committee Red Cross ICRC delegation in Syria in performing  relief and humanitarian activities in the country.

Meeting with ICRC head of office in Damascus Magnet Bart, on Sunday  the minister pointed out areas of joint cooperation between the ICRC and the High Commission for Relief , especially  food aid ranging between 30 and 40 thousand food basket per month , and health assistance to health centers in collaboration with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent,  noting the efforts made by the Commission in water purification, sanitation and increase the size of monthly relief aids.

The  ICRC head of delegation reviewed   various activities in the areas of relief work related to food and water purification  in temporary accommodation centers , and health assistance in cooperation with authorities concerned .

Minister al-Shammat also  examined with the Resident Coordinator of UN  activities in Syria Adam Abdel Mawla difficulties encountered  relief work of UN agencies  working in Syria and ways of cooperation between the two sides .

In  a statement after the meeting the Minister stressed the  importance of implementing programs and projects to empower affected families economically and socially, especially the families who lost breadwinners as a result of current events .

In turn, Mawla noted  the importance of establishing a partnership between the ministry and the UNDP on social development , improving the livelihoods of poorest families and providing  special services for the disabled.
