Syria Hopes Tunisia’s Presidential Elections Will Help the Country Regain Its Key National Role

 DAMASCUS, (ST)-Syria hopes that the Tunisian presidential elections will help the country regain its key role in the service of national causes, an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Tuesday.

The source told SANA, the state news agency, that “the Syrian Arab Republic expresses most sincere congratulations to the newly elected Tunisian President and to the brotherly people and government of Tunisia on the success of the presidential elections in which the Tunisians have clearly specified their options.”

 

“Syria hopes that these elections will be an important step to enhance stability in the country, achieve welfare to the Tunisian people and help Tunisia regain its effective role in the service of national causes,” the source said.

On Monday, the Tunisian Elections Board announced Beji Caid Essebsi, Nidaa Tounes Party candidate, winner in the elections to become the President of Tunisia for the coming five years after getting 55.86 percent of the votes.
