Syria Has Completely Given Up Its Chemical Program: Al-Mikdad
DAMASCUS, (ST)-Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad has stressed that Syria has completely given up its chemical program, thus the country has no more chemical weapons or toxic chemical materials and gases that can be used in war operations.
In a press conference on Monday in Damascus, al-Mikdad, who is also Head of the National Committee in charge of implementing Syria’s obligations resulted from its joining of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), said that the claims and lies about the Syrian government using of chemical weapon aim at distorting the image of the Syrian Arab republic before the world public opinion, at finding justifications that serve the the Israeli entity and its interest in the region and at prolonging the crisis in Syria particularly after the gains achieved by the Syrian Arab army and its allies in the war on terrorism.
“We said it from the very beginning. The use of mass destruction weapons, which were invented in the West by the United States, France and Britain , is an immoral matter,” said al-Mikdad, affirming that “the parties that used these weapons are these very countries.”
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has acknowledged that Syria has eliminated its chemical file, but still there are some parties which believe that accusing Syria of using toxic chemical materials may bring to the world’s mind that the Syrian chemical program is still valid, outlined Dr. al-Mikdad.
He noted that the Syrian government has officially requested that chemical materials be disposed of outside Syria so that there can be no doubts about them being destroyed or not, and ships came from Denmark, the US, Britain, Finland and Sweden to carry out this process, pointing out that the Americans are asking for the documents related to the history of the file and experts and others, which no longer exist.
Al-Mikdad affirmed that the US direct aggression on al-Shairat airport in Homs countryside following the alleged chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun had no moral, political or operational justification at all, pointing out that it aimed at showing the US new administration as a strong side and that it can strike any place, as well, it came as a commitment by the US to the interests of the Zionist entity and to prolong the crisis in Syria, particularly after the achievements made by the Syrian Arab Army and its allies.
On any US imminent aggression on Syria, al-Mikdad said “we will not be surprised if the US would commit new attacks on Syria, but the US must accurately account the reactions of Syria and its allies.”
The US administration does not have any moral or political grounds to deliver a strike on Syria and the Syrian government has not taken any steps, which could justify a new US aggressive move, al-Mikdad clarified.
