Syria Has Been Key Partner of India in IETC Program: Ambassador

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Indian Embassy in Damascus celebrated the 55 anniversary of launching the Indian Economic and technical Cooperation Program (IETC).

A number of Syrian students who benefitted from the program talked about their study experience in India, the expertise they got  and the positive points which will reflect in future on their work in different Syrian institutions.

In a statement, the official in charge of implementing the IETC at the Indian Embassy Huda al-Amin stressed the importance of exchanging expertise and assessing the benefit from the training programs provided by India within the IETC. She pointed out that the IETC accepts every year 90 Syrian trainees in different technical fields.

 Speaking to journalists, the Indian Ambassador in Damascus Man Mohan Bhanot affirmed the importance of the IETC in providing training to Syrian students and enhancing their skills and in deepening cooperation between Syria and India. He asserted that Syria has been a key partner of India in this program.

Bhanot pointed out that India has provided the Syrian students with a special program that included 1000 scholarships given Syria’s need in the reconstruction era for young skillful cadres that are able to rebuild the country’s infrastructure.

On his part, Rector of Damascus University Mohammad Maher Qabaqibi stressed the IETC program’s importance in deepening cultural and academic cooperation between the Syrian education institutions and their Indian counterparts.

He pointed out that on the sidelines of their participation in the International Conference on Higher Education, held recently in new Delhi, rectors of the Syrian universities held several meetings with representatives of 40 Indian education institutions in order to expand bilateral relations and implement joint scientific research.
