Syria, Germany to activate joint cooperation in the agriculture field 

Minister of Agriculture and Agricultural Reform Amjad Badr discussed on Wednesday with the Acting Head of the German embassy in Damascus Margaret Jacob means of activating joint cooperation and supporting agriculture in Syria.

 

Minister, Badr stressed the importance of developing cooperation with the German government, which contributed in supporting and developing agricultural development in developing countries.

 

He pointed to the importance of reforming and restoring irrigation channels and wells that have been severely damaged during the period of the former regime. He also stressed the need to support agricultural infrastructure.

 

Minister Badr pointed out that the ministry is interested in activating work with the United Nations organizations and countries that seek to extend a helping hand to develop Syrian agriculture, and it discusses with multiple international organizations and bodies the ability to support and finance agricultural projects.

 

Badr indicated the importance of training technical and scientific cadres in the Ministry of Agriculture, rehabilitating the forests that have been subjected to infringements and fires.

 

For her part, the Acting Head of the German embassy in Damascus affirmed that the German government is interested in supporting and developing Syrian agriculture according to the priorities it needs and determined by the Ministry.

 

Jacob expressed the German government’s desire to provide financial and technical support for agriculture and develop and increase agricultural production to improve farm income.
