GENEVA,(ST)_ Syria demanded the international community to compel countries that finance and arm the terrorists in Syria and that offer them support ,passage and safe haven to respect due commitments to international resolutions and agreements on combating terrorism and to stop it immediately .
Syria ‘s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Dr. Faisal al-Hamwi said in a statement delivered on behalf of Syria before the VI International Forum on the rights of religious minorities , who began deliberations in Geneva yesterday that ” the Syrian Arab Republic has a distinct civilized heritage and a distinctive experience in co-existence and in giving equal opportunities for all its people in with a broad mix of religions and races who all enjoy equal rights and freedom to practice their religious beliefs in accordance with Syria’s Constitution and law . “
” Syria is exposed since more than two years to a systematic terrorist attack aimed at spreading sedition and blasphemy in the structure of a national and fraternal society , which lived hundreds of years in harmony , unity and understanding,” Hamwi said ,” adding that ” Syria has been plagued by terrorists belonging to more than 80 countries , where elements of al-Qaeda and its arms are still killing innocent civilians and mutilating their bodies , ” only because they violate the thought and belief of al-Qaeda extremist and defending united and secular Syria , seeking to turn Syria into ” Taliban-style emirate ” which violates all human rights and fundamental freedoms . “
He indicated “the most prominent of these crimes , which are built on takfirists fatwas of suicide bombings and indiscriminate targeting safe areas by mortar and ethnic and religious cleansing that forced residents of some areas of the minorities to immigrate, and leave the country.
” Terrorism knows no boundaries and disrespectful affront values or rights of man ,” Hamwi said , calling on the international community to unite to confront , uproot and eliminate it and to force the countries that finance and arm terrorists and those that offer ” them support , a conduit and a safe haven to respect its commitments to international resolutions and conventions on combating terrorism, otherwise it will find itself liable for their crimes . “
Hamwi added that , ” the Security Council and relevant international organizations play a key role in the serious risks incurred by these schemes on national unity in many countries and its security and stability .”
Hamwi concluded the statement by saying that ” Syria stresses that the fight against terrorism and extremist ideologies are the only way to preserve the cultural and civilizational diversity , which is a national treasure for civilized human societies .
