Syria Fighting International Terrorism on Behalf of Entire World-Grand Mufti

MOSCOW, (ST)-“The Syrian state is now fighting international terrorism on behalf of the entire world, Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, Syria’s Grand Mufti has reiterated, pointing out that Syria continues to foil the American and NATO schemes in the region and at the same time keeps adhering to Palestine, resistance and justice.

Hassoun, who was speaking during his meeting on Tuesday with Chairman of the Russian Communist Party Central Committee Gennady Zyuganov in Moscow, talked about the huge pressure being put on Syria by the United States and its regional and international allies, stressing that Russia, like Syria, is also being exposed to similar pressure.

“Western allies wanted to punish Syria by sending all terrorists of the world to the country, because of its national independent policy and decision which aim to maintain its sovereignty over its land and because of its deeply-rooted and strong relations with Russia, the mufti said.

“They also wanted Russia to be a subordinate to the dollar and the Euro, but President Valdimir Putin succeeded in saving Russia from such subordination,” he added.

Russia to Keep Supporting Syrian People

Zyuganov, on his part, affirmed that Russia will keep its solidarity with and support for the Syrian people, hailing the national brave stances of the Syrian grand mufti which help the Syrians be united in their war against the international terrorism and the mercenaries of the NATO countries and reactionary regimes.

In a statement to reporters following his meeting with Zyuganov, the mufti said “what is going on in Syria isn’t a public revolution or an opposition revolution, rather it is a war waged by foreign-backed takfiris and terrorists most of them have come from abroad.”

“Syria is now standing in the frontline to defend freedom-loving people against those who want the world to be turned into conflicting religious states in the name of religion,” he added.

“We are witnessing the birth of a new world and this world will either be independent or be a subordinate to the colonialist western decisions that aim to make Palestine an extremist religious homeland for a Zionist group which seeks igniting wars all over the world,” the mufti told reporters.
