Syria Facilitates ICRC activities- Chief

GENEVA,(ST)_ “The Syrian government met its promises in taking  ‘additional steps’ to facilitate the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC  in order to secure humanitarian assistance to those affected by the current situation in Syria, stressed ICRC  head of mission  Peter Maurer.

In an interview with AFP Maurer added that Syria keeps its promises to take additional steps in this area, pointing out that his visit to Damascus last September availed “improvements” in the ICRC humanitarian activities.

Maurer expressed his desire to expand the organization’s work in Syria, said: “We still have ambitions to expand our activities in Syria and we hope to be able to do more in the coming days.”

“The most important for the ICRC is that the two parties to the conflict in Syria to honor the logo of the ICRC, as a neutral and independent intermediary and to allow access to vulnerable people as a result of the events.”
