Syria was elected on Monday as the Vice-President of the World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education (WCECCE), organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent.
The conference, which kicked off yesterday and will last until November 16th, aims at reaffirming the right of every young child to quality care and education from birth and urge Member States to renew and expand their commitment to and invest in ensuring the access of all girls and boys to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education.
During today’s session, Assistant Director General of UNESCO Stefania Giannini reviewed the international situation of early childhood care and education and the challenges that face this goal.
The conference provides an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences about facing challenges and finding solutions with the aim of achieving progress in early childhood care.
During the conference, Syria will submit its national report on the situation of early childhood in the country, on the important role of the Regional Early Childhood Center of the Ministry of Education in promoting regional work in early childhood care and education and on the obstacles that impede achieving the sustainable development’s fourth goal, mainly the wars and the economic disasters imposed on the Arab region in general and Syria in particular by some countries that claim protecting Children rights.
Syria’s participation aims at boosting cooperation with other countries of the world to find real international support for the world’s educational issues, particularly in the developing countries that always face wars and disasters.
Syria will also review the most important projects implemented in the field of supporting education in all its stages and enhancing human capacity building, including the early childhood care and education projects. The review will also include presenting a promo for the successful experiences of the Ministry of Education and the Regional Center for Early Childhood in the care and education of pre-school children.
