Syria, Egypt discuss enhancing agricultural cooperation

On January 16th, the Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Mohamed Hassan Qatna, met with the Vice President of the General Union of Workers in Agriculture, Irrigation, Hunting and Egyptian Land Reclamation Abdel Fattah Sayed Ahmed and the accompanying delegation.

The two sides discussed boosting agricultural relations and cooperation between the two countries, in a way that serves the agricultural sector and farmers of both countries.

Qatana reviewed the situation of agriculture in Syria and the difficulties that farmers faced during the previous years, stressing that the Syrian farmers did not leave their lands despite all the difficult circumstances they went through, rather, they insisted on staying and continued to cultivate their lands.

He said that the government’s support for the agricultural sector continues with the aim of achieving stability for the farmer on his land and securing agricultural requirements.

He underlined the importance of cooperation in improving agricultural practices, enhancing. Agricultural mechanization and introducing new varieties that adapt to climate changes and have high productivity.

The head of the Egyptian delegation Abdel-Fattah Sayed Ahmed stressed the strength of  relations between Syria and Egypt, noting the importance of developing them in a way that benefits agriculture and farmers in both countries.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the General Union of Farmers Ahmed Saleh Ibrahim.
