Syria does not recognize the OPCW’s “Investigation and Identification Team” as it was established as a result of western pressure

Syria’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague Milad Attia has stressed that Syria does not recognize the “Investigation and Identification Team” of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and its previous and subsequent reports because this team was established as a result of pressure exerted by the United States, France and Britain on the OPCW for special purposes in blatant violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).

Attia made the remarks during a press conference on Thursday at the building of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

He reiterated that Syria has cooperated with the OPCW and facilitated the visits of its teams in all the areas and places they asked to visit, pointing out that Syria has provided all facilitations to make the teams’ missions a success, despite the difficult circumstances imposed by the war.

He said that the latest report of the OPCW “Investigation and Identification Team” accused Syria of using chemical materials in the alleged chemical incident that took place in the Syrian city of Douma in 2018. However, Syria doesn’t recognize this report and the previous reports of the team as it was established under pressure fro western countries.
