Syria Discusses Cooperation with IOM to Alleviate Crisis Repercussions

DAMASCUS, (ST) – UN relief efforts and cooperation with the Syrian government to alleviate the repercussions of crisis in Syria were the main topic discussed during a meeting between Local Administration Minister Omar Ghalawanji and head of International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Syria Maria Raman.

Ghalawangi reviewed the government’s efforts to provide assistance to victims of the terrorist acts perpetrated by the armed groups in Syria, pointing out that the reconstruction committee is keen to compensate the victims for losing their properties and it is sparing no effort to ensure them stable life in their original residences after rehabilitation works.

The minister stressed that the government’s contribution to the humanitarian assistance is made through cooperation with the Higher Relief Committee and through coordination with UN organizations within the framework of the response plan signed between the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry and the United Nations

Galawanji pointed out that the government has established 840 well-served temporary stay centers, provided 3 million food baskets and rendered necessary medical care to the Syrian citizens who were displaced from their houses.

He welcomed the UN official’s suggestion on forming trained national team to lead the reconstruction process in the post-crisis era, pointing out that for this purpose there is a plan to train 200 thousand people on handicrafts and this necessitates having well-qualified trainers.

Raman , who regretted what is going on in Syria and hoped that the country will surpass the current crisis, said the IOM continues its cooperation with the Local Administration Ministry to rehabilitate a number of temporary stay centers in the governorates of Damascus, Damascus Countryside, Lattakia, Hama and Homs.
