Syria Determined to Reach Political Solution Based on Respecting its Independence and Sovereignty: al-Moallem

NEW YORK-Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem met on Monday Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York.

During the meeting, Al-Moallem briefed Makei on the latest field and political developments in Syria and the contacts made with the Russian side to reach Idleb agreement.

According to SANA, he clarified that Syria is awaiting the implementation of obligations regarding the agreement by the Turkish side, affirming the priority of liberating Idleb completely.

 “Syria is determined to reach a political solution, based on respecting its sovereignty and preserving its territorial integrity and the solution should be realized under a Syrian leadership without any foreign interference,” al-Moallem said, adding that Syria welcomes the return of displaced Syrians to their homeland.

SANA said that the Belarusian Foreign Minister, for his part, expressed his country’s appreciation for Syria’s achievements in combating terrorism and defending its sovereignty and independence, stressing Belarus permanent endeavors to boost bilateral relations in all fields.

Makei affirmed his country’s continuous support to Syria at international circles, particularly in condemning the economic unilateral procedures imposed on the Syrian people, saying that Belarus stands against politicizing the work of the Organization for the Prohibition of chemical Weapons.
