Syria demands an end to the crime of cutting off water to Hasakah by the Turkish and American occupation

Damascus, (ST) – Syria has demanded an end to the war crime committed by the Turkish and American occupation and their mercenaries by cutting off water to a million citizens in the city of Hasakah and its vicinity for more than four months. It warned that the continued thirst of the people and the threat to their lives portends a humanitarian, health and environmental disaster.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that the suffering of the people in Hasakah Governorate continues as a result of the attacks carried out by the Turkish and American regimes and their mercenaries in northeastern Syria, and through cutting off water to the people of the governorate for more than four months, which threatens with a humanitarian, health and environmental catastrophe.

The statement pointed out that what the governorate is exposed to in terms of the hunger of the people and the threat to their lives is nothing but a “war crime” in accordance with all international conventions, humanitarian norms and international humanitarian law, and it is being committed in full view of the international community and international organizations who have ignored this crime against humanity.

The Ministry added that the Turkish aggression does not stop targeting the electric power carriers of the water stations that feed the governorate and irrigate innocent citizens, violating the minimum standards of humanity, and using cutting off water as a tool to achieve its political goals.

The Ministry also said that despite the ongoing intensive efforts made by the Syrian state to protect its citizens and secure water drinking water for them and water needed for general hygiene, but the needs there exceeded all possibilities, as the hostile practices of the Turkish and American forces in the northern and eastern regions exceeded all expectations.

The Foreign Ministry renewed Syria’s call on the international community to move urgently to stop the described war crime, and to do what is necessary to re-secure drinking water for the people of Hasakah. It warned of the catastrophic effects that will result from the continued cutting off of water to the governorate, which requires international and humanitarian bodies to assume their responsibilities and intervene immediately to stop this suffering, and holding accountable everyone who participates in depriving more than a million citizens who are victims of these heinous practices of their most basic human right, which is clean water.
