Syria: Countries’ failure to achieve their goals in Syria is behind their banning of presidential elections in embassies

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Susan has declared that the countries that have banned holding Syrian presidential elections in the Syrian embassies for political reasons are politically and legally responsible for preventing Syrians from their right of expressing their opinions.

He made it clear that these countries adopted this step because of their failure to achieve their goals in Syria and because they seek to hinder the restoration of stability to our country.

Susan told the Syrian News Agency (SANA) that Syrians will prove their adherence to national principles through their participation in the forthcoming presidential elections to be held on May, 20, 2012 abroad.

“ Legitimacy is given by Syrian citizen and not by the approval of certain countries”, he asserted.

Susan added that Syrian embassies have prepared electoral lists and records and completed all their preparations to conduct the elections for the Syrians abroad according to the rules of the election law and its amendments.

“Election centers will open from 7:00 am till 7:00 pm according to the time of the hosting country and voters  have to bring their valid passports that were stamped upon their departure from Syria,” he clarified.

Susan referred to the important role of Syrian expatriates in accomplishing the electoral process optimally through considerable cooperation among the embassies and the expatriate institutions which have explained the contexts of the electoral process.
