Syria: Constructive Dialogue Is Basis of Parliamentary Action Aiming to Achieve International Peace and Security

MOSCOW- The 2nd International Forum “Development of Parliamentarism” was opened in Moscow Monday evening with the participation of a delegation from the Syrian People’s Assembly, led by Deputy Speaker Najdat Anzour, in addition to some 400 parliamentarians and parliamentary experts representing 132 countries.

The two-day forum aims to enhance parliamentary diplomacy among countries. It will discuss inter-parliamentary cooperation and dialogue to establish peace and stability in the entire world, international security, legislative initiatives, digital economy, artificial intelligence and challenges.

The role of legal settlement in combating poverty, in addition to absence of social justice in the world, media wars, means to overcome disinformation and general approaches to legislative initiatives that will determine the future of mankind, are also topics to be focused on during the event.

Other topics like youths’ role in developing parliamentary policies in addition to the International Humanitarian Law and humanitarian cooperation are also to be discussed.

Member of the delegation Hussein Abbas, Head of the Syrian-Russian Parliamentary Friendship Society, said in his speech at the International Parliamentary Cooperation section that objective and constructive dialogue away from double standards is the basis of parliamentary action to achieve international peace and security.

He pointed out that the United States continues to claim protecting freedom and democracy while it keeps practicing the policy of aggression, siege and sanctions against peoples of the world and keeps supporting terrorism, something it has been doing in Syria.

He called for confronting the US hegemony policy through finding certain laws that prevent the spreading of this arbitrary aggressive policy, reiterating that Syria’s openness to dialogue is based on humanitarian principles aiming to serve peoples’ security safety and stability.

On his part, Member of the People’s Assembly Aref al-Taweel delivered a speech during a session about media wars and how to confront fake news. He said that what happened in Syria over the years of terrorist war has been a very clear example about what media war and misleading fake news do.

He talked about the plans and strategies adopted by the misleading media to circulate and publish fake news, calling for unifying efforts to confront disinformation and document information about fake news and exchange these information among parliaments in order to uncover the parties which are responsible for publishing fake news.

In an interview with SANA correspondent in Moscow, Belarusian MP “Nikolai Sumasiko” stressed that the Syrian-Belarusian relations are deep rooted, particularly in the parliamentary field. He said that the forum serve enhancing and solidifying relations between Syria and Belarus, pointing out that the peoples in the two countries have suffered western coercive measures and economic siege, so the Belarusians know how much these measures can affect the living of the Syrian people.

On his part, member of the Russian Duma Petr Tolstoy, told SANA that the participation of the Syrian People’s Assembly in the forum is very important because “it breaks the unjust siege imposed on the Syrian people and enhances mutual confidence between participants.”
