Syria Condemns Illegal Excavations for Syrian Artifacts Conducted by Occupying American, French and Turkish Forces

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Syria has condemned the illegal excavations for artifacts being carried out by the American, French and Turkish forces and their agents in Syrian areas under their occupation.

In a statement to SANA, an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Monday “the ministry condemns illegal digging works and excavations for antiquities being conducted by the American, French and Turkish troops and their agents in the Syrian towns and cities of Manbej, Afrin, Idleb, Hassaka, Raqqa and other areas under these forces’ occupation.

 Information indicate an escalation of excavation works and looting activities that target the Syrian cultural heritage aiming at undermining it, the source added.

 These illegal activities constitute a new crime added to other crimes committed against the Syrian people and its history and civilization, the ministry source affirmed, noting that the terrorist organizations and their supporters, since the beginning of the terrorist war on Syria, have spared no effort as to steal the Syrian artifacts and cultural heritage objects and sell them within the framework of the aggressive scheme  which aims at destroying Syria’s civilization and depriving the Syrian people of their history.

The ministry, the source said, calls on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to condemn these grave violations which target the Syrian cultural heritage and to uncover the tools and parties which implement this aggressive scheme.

The ministry reiterates Syria’s determination to liberate the entire Syrian land, preserve the Syrian national sovereignty and protect the Syrian cultural heritage which is a witness of the civilization and history of the Syrian people and the entire humanity.
