Syria has vehemently condemned the remarks made by spokesman of the French Foreign Ministry on the Syrian presidential elections, stressing that these elections are a sovereign Syrian affair par excellence in which no foreign party has the right to interfere and that the Syrians alone have the final say in this matter.
In a statement to SANA on Saturday, a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that Syria considers the spokesman’s remarks as unnecessary, because these elections are a Syrian sovereign affair par excellence in which no external party has the right to interfere, and he is absolutely not entitled to express his opinion in this affair.
The source added that the Syrians alone have the final say in this regard, pointing out that the active participation of the Syrians abroad, including in Paris, in voting is the strongest response to such remarks.
The source added that the French government, together with the governments of the countries hostile to Syria, hold full responsibility for shedding the Syrians’ blood, destroying their achievements and preventing them from having access to food and medicine, through their anti-Syria policies and the support they have provided to cross-border terrorism in Syria and through the unilateral coercive measures they have imposed on the Syrian people.
The wrong approach of the French government regarding Syria won’t impede the process of maintaining stability in the country, the source went on to say, pointing out that France should realize that time never returns and the mandate era has passed forever and that legitimacy in Syria is granted by the Syrians alone not by the French authorities.
