Syria Condemns Cowardly Terror Attack on Cairo Church

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has strongly condemned the terrorist explosion that targeted a church in Cairo on Sunday.

Named for St. Peter and St. Paul, the church is commonly known as El-Botroseya.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said “the Syrian Arab Republic strongly condemns the cowardly terrorist attack against El-Botroseya Church in Cairo and expresses deep condolences to the brotherly Egyptian people and the bereaved families of the victims wishing speedy recovery to the wounded.”

At least 25 people were killed and 49 others injured after a bomb went off in El-Botroseya church near the Orthodox Cathedral in Cairo’s Abbassyia district.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said during an address at a state funeral for the victims of the blast that the bomb attack on Cairo’s cathedral complex on Sunday was carried out by a 22-year-old suicide bomber, Ahram Online reported.

Governments of several countries have expressed condolences to Egypt after the Sunday bomb attack.
