Syria closes airspace over northwestern region, warns that any aircraft that violates the Syrian airspace will be shot down

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has closed its airspace over the country’s northwestern region, mainly over Idleb, a military source said on Sunday, stressing that Any aircraft that violates our airspace will be treated as an hostile flight that must be shot down and prevented from achieving its aggressive goals.”

The source told SANA that the Turkish regime forces continue their aggressive acts against the Syrian army in Idleb and its vicinity through directly targeting the Syrian soldiers who are fighting the terrorists or through providing all forms of support to the terrorist organizations which are designated as such by the Security Council.

The source added that “the repeated aggressive acts by the Turkish occupation forces won’t succeed in saving the terrorists from the strikes of the Syrian army, pointing out that these attacks proves the Turkish regime’s disregard of all the previously signed agreements, including the Sochi agreement.”

“Starting from its commitment to its constitutional and national duties in defending Syria’s sovereignty and protecting its security and territorial integrity, the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces announces “the closure of the airspace for aircraft and any drones flights over the northwestern region of Syria, especially over Idleb governorate”, the source said.

“Any aircraft that violates our airspace will be treated as an hostile flight that must be shot down and prevented from achieving its goals,” the source added citing the army command.

Earlier in the day, the Syrian Arab Army downed a drone for the Turkish regime over Saraqeb in Idleb southeastern countryside, dismissing what has been circulated by some media outlets on downing a Syrian warplane and affirming that the target that was downed was a Turkish drone that entered the Syrian airspace.
