Syria, China Stress Need to Continue the Fight against Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Talks on Thursday between Syria’s Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem and China’s Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan focused on continuous coordination at all levels to boost the Syrian-Chinese relations to a strategic level.

The two sides affirmed the need to continue the fight against terrorism in Syria to eliminate the terrorist organizations’ threats to security and stability in the region and the world.

Al-Moallem briefed the Chinese envoy on the situation in Syria, particularly the results of his talks with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen on forming the constitutional committee. He also talked about the developments of military operations against terrorists in the countryside of Hama and Idleb.

“Syria won’t give up countering all forms of terrorism until the entire Syrian territory is cleaned of terrorists and security and stability returns countrywide, despite the support provided by Turkey and the United States to their terrorist tools,” al-Moallem said.

He hailed China’s support for the Syrian government in its war on terrorism, stressing Beijing’s key role in the regional and international arenas.

He explained the Syrian government’s efforts to meet the needs of citizens and ensure elements of the reconstruction process, especially in the light of the difficulties resulted from imposing economic terrorism and unilateral coercive measures on Syria by the United States and its allies.

On his part, the Chinese envoy reiterated his country’s firm support for the Syrian Arab Republic’s right to fight the terrorist groups on its lands, seeing it as Syria’s right in protecting its sovereignty and integrity of land.

Xie Xiaoyan also affirmed that China backs the Syrian government’s efforts to reconstruct the country and help the Syrian refugees return home.
