Syria, China Discuss Enhancing Economic, Electricity Cooperation

Damascus, (ST) – Electricity Minister Mohamed Zuhair Kharbotli discussed here with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Damascus Qi Qianjin ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries concerning electricity and energy sector.

Talks dealt with the possibility that Chinese companies to rehabilitate Aleppo generation station and ways to provide ambulatory solutions to provide power to the city.

  Mr. Kharbotli pointed to the agreement on send many of the technical staff over the next year to train and strengthen the expertise of these persons in addition to the advantage of some Chinese companies to improve and develop the work of the electrical system including generation, transmission and distribution, noting the grant provided by China and $ 12 million to provide materials, electrical and electronic equipment.

For his part, the Chinese Ambassador pointed to the importance of strengthening and deepening of relations between the two countries and the continuation of trade exchanges in all fields, including electric power in addition to the interest of Chinese companies to participate in the reconstruction phase in Syria.

Earlier, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Adib Mayaleh and Chinese Ambassador discussed ways of enhancing bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, especially in the fields of trade and economy.

Mr. Mayaleh pointed out to the importance of the Chinese participation in the reconstruction process in Syria, especially that the priority in this sector will be to the companies from the countries which stood by Syria during the crisis.

For his part, Qianjin affirmed that the Chinese government is interested in developing the trade and economic relations with Syria, adding that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce is encouraging the public and private Chinese companies to implement projects abroad in implementation of the Silk Road initiative announced by the Chinese President in 2013.
