Syria calls on UNSC to take deterrent measures against countries that sponsor and support terrorism

On February 4, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that the terrorist groups’ attacks on the economic installations and infrastructure that offer services to the Syrian people and the unilateral coercive measures imposed by some countries on Syria are the main reason for the aggravation of the conditions experienced by the Syrian people.

“Concerning the crimes committed by the terrorist groups, theyhave carried out new attacks intentionally on service infrastructure, especially the oil and energy sector that provides vital services for children, women, and the elderlyof the Syrian people. These attacks led to great material losses and great destruction to some of these facilities. The last of these attacks was the one that targeted Al Rayyan gas station, the Southern Gas Plant, Ebla Gas Plant and  Homs Oil Refinery, as well as targeting the oil marine terminals in Banias on the 27th of January,” the Ministry saidin two letters addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the United Nations Security Council.

The Ministry added that these terrorist acts coincide with the escalation of crimes of the armed terrorist groups against civilians in the cities of Aleppo, Idlib, Hama and Lattakia and the targeting safe residential neighborhoods with hundreds of shells and rockets, which led to the death and injury of dozens of civilians. All of this was directly supported by the Turkish regimethat provides logistical support to these terrorist groups.

“The reports of the United Nations Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs “OCHA” and other organizations surprisingly didn’t highlight these terrorist attacks and other crimes. All these crimes are committed under the protection and political and media coverage of well-known countries, mainly the United States of America and some Western countries,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry said: “In the face of these repeated and deliberate attacks on oil and economic installations, the Syrian Arab Republic reserves the right to ask countries that provide all forms of support to armed terrorist groups to pay compensation to Syria as a result of this systematic destruction.Syria also has the right to call on these countries to immediately halt these practices which destroy the capabilities of the Syrian people, prolong the crisis and slow down the recovery process.

“The government of the Syrian Arab Republic affirms the need for states to fulfill their moral and legal obligationsand for the UN Security Council to take immediate and deterrent measures against terrorist organizations and against states sponsoring and supporting terrorism in violation of Security Council resolutions related to countering-terrorism, international law and the Charter of the United Nations in addition to threatening international security and peace,” the Ministry concluded its messages.
