Syria Calls on UNSC to condemn al-Hasaka Bombings, Take Deterrent Action against States Supporting Terrorists

DAMASCUS, (ST) _ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates yesterday sent two identical letters to the UN Secretary-General and President of the UN Security Council about the terrorist bombing that targeted innocent civilians in al-Hassaka city on Friday.

The letter read that terrorist organizations detonated two booby trapped cars in al-Mufti residential neighborhood in al-Hasaka center targeted Syrian citizens who were celebrating al-Neiruz festival, resulted in the death of more than 40 civilians and injuring 96, most of them children and women, with more than 20 civilians in critical conditions.

The letter recalled that the recent terrorist massacre is part of similar terrorist crimes carried out in all Syrian provinces at the hands of what is described as “moderate armed opposition,” and gangs hired by countries in the region and beyond, reflected in targeting components of the Syrian society and infrastructure, medical services and educational institutions and destruction of archaeological and historical sites and looting and trafficking their contents.

According to the letter,  Syria has repeatedly demanded the UN Security Council need to take a firm stand against terrorists and states supporting them,  and is calling on the international community to refrain from dealing with terrorism and armed terrorist groups in accordance with double standards at the expense of the blood of innocent Syrians and to coordinate and cooperate fully with the Syrian government to fight terrorism in word and deed, because the fire of terrorists and their evil intention,  will extend to other world countries.

The letter urges the UN Security Council is demanded to condemn this terrorist act and take a real deterrent action against terrorist groups and supporting and sponsoring countries, according to its relevant resolutions, especially resolutions Nos. 2170 of -2014, 2178 of 2014 and 2199 of 2015.

The letter concluded that this cowardly terrorist act which targeted innocent civilians will not succeed in destabilizing the unity of the Syrian people and the various components that characterized the long history of the Syrians, and that the Syrian government is proceeding with its war on terrorism and the protection of its citizens in accordance with set constitutional duties,  in parallel with finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria, through national dialogue that ensures the liquidation of terrorism and preserves the unity of the Syrian people and lands.
