Syria calls on the United Nations and the Security Council to issue a clear and explicit condemnation of the Israeli attacks on its territory
On August 27th, Syria called on the United Nations and the Security Council to issue a clear and explicit condemnation of the Israeli attacks on its lands as a deliberate violation of the sovereignty of a member state of the United Nations
Syria stressed that it reserves the right to respond by appropriate means sanctioned by international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a letter to both the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council: “Syria affirms that it reserves the right to respond by appropriate means according to the international law and the Charter of the United Nations, to face the repeated Israeli attacks. Syria said that the Israeli occupation is determined today more than ever to adopt a dangerous aggressive and escalatory policy based on targeting civilian facilities, sabotaging infrastructure and endangering the lives of civilians.”
The Ministry added: “In this context, my country recalls some of the crimes of the Israeli occupation forces recently, when it targeted Damascus International Airport on June 10, 2022, which led to the airport being completely out of service for a period of two weeks, and when it targeted the commercial sea port of Latakia on December 17, 2021, which led to severe damages and sabotage of commercial, food, consumer and medical goods in it, as well as sabotage and destruction of materials and equipment owned by the United Nations Organization in Syria.”
The Ministry pointed out that the international situation in general, and in the Middle East in particular, is going through a fragile and sensitive stage that does not tolerate more escalation and tension.
The Ministry added: “Syria calls on the General Secretariat and the Security Council to issue a clear and explicit condemnation of these Israeli attacks, and to characterize them as a deliberate and repeated breach of the sovereignty of a member state of the United Nations and a direct threat to regional and international peace and security, in line with the principles of the United Nations that reject aggression and occupation and respect the sovereignty, independence, safety and unity of territories of all member states without discrimination or selectivity.”
On the evening of August 25, areas in the vicinity of the cities of Hama and Tartous were subjected to brutal Israeli air aggression from the direction of the sea, southwest of Tartus governorate, which caused the injury of a number of civilians and the infliction of great material losses and the outbreak of large-scale fires in the forests and agricultural areas surrounding the site of the attack.
