Syria calls for keeping OPCW far from US-Western politicization

THE HAGUE, Nov. 30 (ST) -Syria’s permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of chemical Weapons (OPCW) Ambassador Milad Atiyah said that countries, which politicize the Syrian chemical file, justify repeated attacks on Syria, support terrorism, occupy Syrian territory and steal oil should be held accountable,. 

 

His remarks came in response to the allegations of the representatives of Washington and its allies against Syria during  the meeting of the 26th  session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention. 

 

Atiyeh stated that Syria has repeatedly stressed its firm stance of rejecting and condemning the use of chemical weapons by anyone, at any time or place and under any circumstances and called for cooperation with it to confront terrorism and crimes of murder and destruction carried out by terrorists who carry out schemes of some well-known countries about scenarios on the use of chemical weapons to accuse the Syrian government of the act.

 

He  criticized the task of the fact-finding mission which failed in more than one test, referring to the attempts of the US and some western countries to pass the decision of the 4th extraordinary session of the States Parties following their failure to extend the joint investigation mechanism because it lacks professionalism and honesty.   

 

“ The evidence on the failure of the fact-finding mission is clear to all the states parties and its bias and unprofessionalism has been proven in more than one report it issued, particularly the 2018 Douma incident report,” Atiyah added, calling on OPCW not to ignore this study as usual.

The ambassador called on the OPCW’S technical Secretariat to finish its investigations, which started several years ago,  into the incidents.

 

“The US, some western countries, Turkey and the other countries that are involved in killing Syrians have turned terrorists into weapons,” Atiyah added, stressing that these countries design a new type of war in the OPCW.

 

He called for keeping the organization far away from the US-western politicization.   

 

The conference of the States parties started yesterday with the participation of 193 countries including Syria. It will last until next Friday.
