Syria, Belarus to Boost Economic and Trade Relations

Damascus, (ST) – Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer al-Khalil discussed Wednesday with the Belarusian Minister of Industry Vitaly Vovk means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the areas of trade and economy.

Mr. Al-Khalil confirmed the importance of continuous communication between the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade and the Belarusian Embassy in Damascus, calling for completing the executive steps in terms of expanding and strengthening ties of cooperation between the two countries.

 The Minister pointed out that his Ministry will coordinate with the Syrian-Belarusian Business Council and the Syrian private sector to take practical steps to develop and stimulate trade and investment cooperation, calling the Belarusian Republic to participate in the 59 term of Damascus International Fair as it is the largest and oldest exhibition in the region and the participation will provide a great opportunity to companies to reach the Syrian market.

He pointed out that Syria needs to benefit from Belarusian the capabilities and expertise in the domain of heavy industries and infrastructure, especially in the reconstruction phase.

For his part, Mr. Vovk said that his visit aims at enhancing cooperation between the two countries in various fields and activating the work of the Syrian-Belarusian Joint Committee, describing the measures and steps taken by the Syrian side as a road map that can be followed to increase the volume of trade exchange between Damascus and Minsk.

The Belarusian minister affirmed the importance of boosting the work of the Joint Committee through reactivating the working teams, in addition to the need to activate cooperation between businessmen in the two friendly countries.
