DAMASCUS,(ST)-The men’s national chess team have compensated their loss in the opening round to India in the 41st Chess Olympiad ,currently being held in Norway, as they defeated Islands of the Netherlands Antilles in the second round.
Outstanding chess player Ward Tarboush beat Jimmy Isac 1-0. Hasan Omrani, Tarboush’s team mate, beat defeated Madoro 1-0 and Khalid akhras beat John Da Silva.Basheer Aiti drew with Wim Blistra.
The 41st Chess Olympiad, organized by the Federation Internationale des Eches , takes place in Tromso, Norway from 1 August to 14 August 2014.
Approximately 1,570 players participate at the Olympiad, with 881 in the open and 689 in the women’s section. The number of participating teams is 177 from 172 countries in the open section and 136 from 131 countries in the women’s section.
The tournament is played in a swiss system format. The time control for every single game is 90 minutes per 40 moves, with addition of 30 seconds per move, and 30 minutes after the 40th move.
It is allowed once again for a player to offer a draw at any time during the game.
A total of 11 rounds will be played, in which every team plays with four of their players against another team.
Every team is allowed to maintain one reserve player.
