Syria Backs Democratic Korea’s Right to Defend its Sovereignty

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria supports the right of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to defend its sovereignty and condemns the sanctions imposed on the country, according to the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

In a statement of which SANA got a copy on Thursday, the ministry said “based on UN principles that call for respecting countries’ sovereignty and peoples’ right to self-determination  and for not interfering of countries’ internal countries , the Syrian Arab Republic backs the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s right to defend its sovereignty and its people rights and it condemns the sanctions which targeted the higher leadership of Democratic Korea.” The ministry stressed that these sanctions violate the will of the Korean people and its right to self determination.”

The ministry added “Syria is against the militarization of the Korean Peninsula through deploying US rocket shield in South Korea and it stresses the need to attain peace and security in the peninsula through dialogue among the Koreans.
