YEREVAN, (ST)_Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Alen Simonyan met on Tuesday with Syrian ambassador in Yerevan, Mohammed Haj Ibrahim .The discussion centered on the deep-rooted friendship relations between Syria and Armenia, and topics of common concern.
The two sides reviewed the destructive role of the Turkish regime in the region and its destabilizing policy, including cutting off water in northern Syria, especially Hasakah, and putting pressure on the people there to make a demographic change in the region.
They underlined the importance of the mutual parliamentary visits to boost the relations between both countries in various fields, especially the economic one, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA).
Simonyan said that Syria is important to Armenia as it hosted the survivors from the massacre that was committed by the Ottomans against the Armenian people.
For his part, the ambassador talked about the situation in Syria and its fight against terrorism, referring to the sacrifices of the Syrian Army and the steadfastness of the people, which contributed to the recent victories over the terrorists.
The ambassador congratulated Simonyan for his election as Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, and he extended his congratulations to the Armenian people on the occasion of the successful parliamentary elections that were held recently.
