Syria appeals to WHO to unveil the negative effects of US and EU sanctions on Syrian people

DAMASCUS, (ST)_Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Miqdad received on Sunday WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari and  WHO Representative in Syria   Dr Akjemal Magtymova.
 
Al-Miqdad underscored the need to boost cooperation between Syria and WHO in the light of the current circumstances that are caused by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. He also referred to the precautionary measures being adopted by the Syrian government to avoid the spread of the pandemic in the country.
 
The Syrian diplomat denounced the continuity of unilateral and coercive measures being adopted by US and its European allies against Syria, stressing that these measures contradict the UN charter.
 
He called on international humanitarian organizations, mainly WHO, to unveil the effect of the US and EU measures on meeting the main health and humanitarian needs of Syrian citizen.
 
On his part, Dr. Al-Mandhari highly appreciated the good cooperation of between the Syrian government and WHO, asserting the organization’s determination to enhance cooperation with the Syrian government for the interest of the Syrian people.
 
He pointed out that Syria played an important role in the health sector at a regional level.
