Syria appeals for pressing terrorism-supporter states

DAMASCUS,(ST)_Foreign and Expatriates Ministry has underscored that the purpose of providing al-Nusra Front-affiliated extremist terrorists with more weapons directly is to frustrate the comprehensive national dialogue which is the only solution to end the crisis in Syria.

In two identical letters addressed today (Tuesday) to the International Security Council’s Head and the UN Secretary General, the ministry said that the foreign-backed terrorist groups, which commit criminal acts based on Takfiri thinking, spread terrorism in Syria, kill Syrian citizens, and destroy infrastructure and public and private properties.

The ministry has informed the UN Security Council about the practices that could be described as ‘aggressive’ under the General Assembly Decision 3314/d/29. It sent several letters to the UNSC about this topic including a recent letter dated March, 6th, 2013 about the destructive role of the Turkish government in this regard.

Whilst the Syrian government works tirelessly to pave the ground for launching national dialogue, the call for offering more logistic and military support for the armed terrorist groups is being escalated by the US officials, the EU and the Arab League.

“The armed terrorist groups systematically destroy the Syrian state’s utilities using European weapons. This proves the flow of weapons from the same states that ban exporting weapons to Syria.”‘

Saudi, US remarks

In this context, the ministry noted that the Saudi Foreign Minister declared last week that his state (Saudi Arabia) would go ahead with arming the terrorist groups in Syria.

It also added that the EU decision stipulates for selling or exporting non-lethal military equipment to the opposition is another clue to involvement in supporting gunmen.

In addition, the ministry said: ” the remarks made by the US Secretary of State in Saudi Arabia as regards his state’s support for arming moderate groups raises a question about seriousness of the US adherence to reaching a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria and its clearly stated promises to combat terrorism including the blacklisted al-Nusra Front.”

World reports

It cited reports published by world and European newspapers about involvement of some states, such as Qatar , Saudi Arabia and Turkey, in arming terrorist groups inside Syria, while the EU states and the US allocate millions of dollars to offer military support to these groups, train them and give a political cover to their acts.

The ministry asserted, once again, that the decision issued by the AL on March, 6th, 2013 breaches the international law.

How to halt violence?

“The violence can not be halted without pressing the states that back terrorism in Syria directly or under false slogans such as ‘non-lethal equipment’ in an implementation of the US plots which contradict allegations of backing political settlement to the crisis,”

It appealed to the UNSC to back efforts being exerted to settle the crisis in Syria politically and through national dialogue between Syrians under Syria’s leadership.
