Syria and Kazakhstan discuss developing relations in various fields

On November 5, Syria’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Expatriates Dr. Faisal al-Mekdad received Khairat Lama Sharif, Ambassador -at -Large for the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, they discussed ways of developing bilateral relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and Kazakhstan in the cultural, economic, scientific and consular domains.

They also discussed arrangements for reopening Al-FarabiCultural Center in Damascus and operating its activities in the near future.

Mekdad highlighted the historical relations between the two peoples and expressed the Syrian government’s readiness to provide all necessary facilities to upgrade the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Mekdad praised the important role played by the Republic of Kazakhstan in hosting the Astana Peace Talks on Syria.

For his part, Ambassador Sharif said that his visit come within the framework of his country’s keenness to develop its deep historical relations with Syria.

The meeting was attended by Director of Asia DepartmentAyman Ra’ad, Director of the Deputy Minister’s OfficeUsama Ali, Zina Ali from the Deputy Minister’s Office, and from the guest side Saeb Nahas, Honorary Consul for the Republic of Kazakhstan in Syria, and Yergan Kalikinov, Charge d’Affaires of the Kazakh Embassy in Beirut and the accompanying delegation.
