Syria and Algeria discuss water cooperation

Dushanbe (ST): The Minister of Water Resources, Dr. Tammam Raad, discussed with the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Water Resources and Water Security in Algeria, Taha Derbal, the prospects for joint cooperation between the two countries in order to enhance water security, rehabilitate water projects, face challenges and exchange experiences in the fields of policies, technologies and legislation.

During the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the second international conference of the “International Decade of Action on Water” for sustainable development 2018-2028, which kicked off yesterday in the Tajik capital Dushanbe and opened today, Minister Raad reviewed the reality of water resources in Syria in light of the current climate changes and the challenges facing the water sector in the Mediterranean.

For his part, Derbal stressed the importance of cooperation between the two  countries and the need to deepen and develop it between them.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister for Water Strategy, Eng. Jihad Kanaan, and from the Algerian side, Omar Bouqroua, the Inspector General of the Ministry.

Syria participates in the second international conference of the “International Decade of Action on Water” for sustainable development 2018-2028 organized by Tajikistan in cooperation with the United Nations, which aims to support sustainable development and integrated management of water resources and international cooperation on plans related to this field, including those contained in 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
