DAMASCU- The latest political developments in the region, the critical situation in Syria caused by the terrorist war against the country and the unfair economic blockade imposed on the Syrian people for more than five years, were main topics of discussion during a meeting held on Tuesday between Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Mohamad Jihad Al-Laham and the Algerian Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel.
ALaham stressed the common will of all countries of the region to combat terrorism which has been backed and funded by some Arab and regional regimes in the service of the Israeli occupation entity and its colonial project. He hailed Algeria’s pan-Arab stance as well as its support for the Syrian people and for Syria’s unity and national independent decision, according to the state news agency SANA.
The Syrian-Algerian relations should be promoted in different domains, the Speaker said, affirming the need to continue the coordination between the two countries in the Arab and international forums for the interest of the brotherly peoples of Syria and Algeria.
Al-Laham affirmed that “Syria insists the process of attaining political solution in Syria away from foreign interference will continue in parallel with the country’s war against terrorism.”
On his part, the Algerian Minister indicated that his country has already been subject to the same Takfiri terrorist waves from which Syria is suffering nowadays. “It is our duty to support Syria in the face of the terrorist organizations which pose serious threat to all countries of the region, he asserted.
Minister Messahel re-affirmed Algeria’s support for Syria’s unity, independence and sovereignty over all its land, and reiterated that his country will continue to back political solutions and all efforts exerted by the Syrian government regarding the national reconciliation.
Al-Moallem: Syria, Algeria facing danger of terrorism and foreign meddling
Earlier in the day, means of boosting Syrian-Algerian ties and the need for upgrading cooperation at all levels were the focus of talks held Tuesday between Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem and the visiting Algerian Minister and his accompanying delegation.
The two sides reviewed the outcomes of the follow-up committee convened over the past few days with focus put on the importance of enhancing economic cooperation to serve the interests of both countries.
Al-Moallem said that Syria and Algeria have confronted similar challenges starting with fighting foreign occupation, gaining independence and preserving the national unity, and the last of which combating terrorism and its supporters and facing foreign interventions which target the independent national decision and seek undermining the unity, stability and interests of the Syrian and Algerian peoples.
He stressed the Syrian leadership and people’s standing by Algeria to face all terror threats, reiterating Syria’s support to peoples’ right to determine their own future without any foreign interference.
In his turn, Minister Messahel, who chairs the Algerian delegation to the Syrian-Algerian Committee for Economic Cooperation, reiterated his country’s solidarity and support to Syria within the current circumstances, indicating that popular and governmental steadfastness is the only way to defeat terrorism and that the national reconciliation is the guarantee to preserve Syria’s strength, unity and independence.
He expressed hope that security and stability will be restored to Syria soon.
