Syria affirms US sanctions hinder humanitarian relief efforts in Syria

DAMASCUS, Feb.7, (ST)- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has refuted US officials’ attempts to mislead the world public opinion on the economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people through claiming that there is nothing that prevents the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria.

“The US administration’s officials, among them the Regional Spokesperson of the US State Department, Samuel Werberg, and the US permanent missions in New York and Geneva, continue their attempts to mislead the world public opinion and the American people that there is nothing in Caesar Act or the US sanctions to hinder the delivery of humanitarian urgent aid to the Syrian people,” the ministry said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The statement added that the Syrians are digging among the rubble with their own hands or using the simplest of tools while they are dealing with the earthquake catastrophe because the equipment of removing rubble has been banned by US sanctions.

It went on to say that the Syrians are also banned from medicines and medical equipment that would help them face dangers and diseases, indicating that the medicine of cancer treatment is the best example for that.
The ministry confirmed that US officials can lie, but the photos of the affected areas in Aleppo, Lattakia and Hama reveal the truth, and the Syrians are facing their catastrophe with strength, steadfastness and success despite all these sanctions.
