Syria affirms its keenness on defending human values, international law

NEW DELHI, Sep.27, (ST)-The Syrian Ambassador to India, Bassam Al-Khatib, has affirmed Syria’s keenness on defending human values, international law, and just causes, especially the Palestinian cause, and its support for the efforts of the Asian–African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), which deals with issues of great importance within the framework of international law, and expresses solidarity among the peoples of India, Asia and Africa.

Speaking at the 60th annual session of the AALCO, which was held in the Indian capital, New Delhi, the ambassador said that the Palestinian issue will remain the main Syrian cause, and Syria’s position is firm in its support of the Palestinian people’s right to defend their land and their holy shrines, and to restore them and their legitimate rights, especially their right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Khatib denounced the systematic Israeli attacks against Syria, the practices carried out by the Israeli occupation authorities towards our people in the occupied Syrian Golan, and its continued provocative practices, and its violations of international legitimacy resolutions, including UN Resolution No. 497 of 1981.

He stressed Syria’s adherence to its right to fully restore the Syrian Golan that has been occupied since June 1967.

It is noteworthy that the Asian–African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) is an international governmental organization that was formed in 1956, initially to serve as an advisory board to member states on matters of international law.
