Syria Affirms It Fulfilled All Commitments in Line with Chemical Weapons Convention

HAGUE-Syria denounced on Wednesday claims and allegations about the potentials of Syria possessing Chemical weapons, considering them  as mere lies and fabrications of sick imagination of some countries.

“The Syrian Arab Republic confirms that it had fulfilled all its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and successfully completed the destruction of its chemical weapons,” Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN in the Hague Bassam al-Sabbagh said in a statement delivered at the 68th session of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Executive Council, according to SANA.

He affirmed that a thorough and impartial investigation cannot be carried out to uncover the truth of what happened in Khan Shaikoun on April 4, 2017, without paying a visit by the OPCW-UN Joint Investigative Mechanism to al-Shairat airbase and Khan Shaikoun area and taking samples from the both areas.

Sabbagh added that any investigation carried out by witnesses sent by armed terrorist organizations or suspicious reports by organizations belonging to armed terrorist organizations or alleged open sources would not have any credibility.

In a relevant context, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and China, who are parties to the Convention, have condemned the use of chemical weapons by terrorist groups , expressing their deep concern about the threat posed by such use by these groups.
