Damascus (ST): The book industry in Syria has achieved a remarkable presence in terms of quantity and quality at the International Book Fair, which concluded today in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Most of the Syrian publishing houses attended the fair, along with a thousand houses from 30 countries. This came after a long absence, through private and joint pavilions, where visitors flocked to them, reflecting their aspiration to read the Syrian books, which were absent from this event for years.
In a statement, the head of the Publishers Association, Haitham Al-Hafiz, said: “Our participation in the book fair in Riyadh, which came after 10 years of absence, after the invitation was extended by the fair’s management, was highly appreciated by all Arab institutions and publishing houses.
Al-Hafiz indicated that he held talks with the heads of the Federation of Arab Publishers and International Publishers to agree to fully advance the Arab book industry, noting that the coming period will witness a broader Syrian participation in Arab and foreign book fairs, especially that the challenges of the Corona pandemic have been overcome.
The Syrian participation in the fair, according to Al-Hafiz, was represented by thousands of titles from a large number of publishing houses without reservations on specific topics or titles, in order to stimulate Syrian culture and encourage its writers.
