Syria, Abkhazia sign agreement on developing parliamentary work

DAMASCUS, (ST)_ Speaker of the People’s Assembly [Parliament], Hammouda Sabbagh, received on Tuesday Speaker of Abkhazia’s Parliament  Valery Kvarchia and the accompanying delegation.
 
The two sides held talks on the ways of developing Syrian-Abkhaz parliamentary relations through the friendship committees at the two countries’ parliaments. They also discussed how to boost bilateral cooperation in international forums to serve the common interests of Syria and Abkhazia. 
 
Sabbagh briefed the visiting delegation on the conspiracy and the global war that Syria faced at political, military and media levels, in addition to the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people.
 
For his part, Kvarchia stressed that the delegation’s visit to Syria largely contributes to pushing forward the relations between the two countries in all fields, pointing out that his country will go along with the presidential elections scheduled during this month through a delegation from the Abkhazian parliament, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA). 
 
Kvarchia announced that his country will continue standing by Syria and supporting its just causes, especially in confronting terrorism.
 
During the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, Daur Kofi and a number of members of the delegation affirmed their confidence that Syria, which faces terrorism with determination, will inevitably defeat it completely, appreciating the warm reception that the delegation has received since the start of its visit to Syria.
 
Following the meeting, the Syrian and Abkhaz sides signed an “agreement to boost and develop joint parliamentary work.”
