A Sudanese delegation led by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Abu Bakr Omar al-Bushra, visited Syria on July 28 to discuss ways to enhance the Syrian-Sudanese relations in the field of agriculture and scientific research. For this purpose, the delegation held talks with a number of Syrian officials, including the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the Minister of the Water Resources.
The talks between Prime Minister Hussein Arnous and Al-Bushra and discussed boosting cooperation between agricultural research centers in the two countries, exchanging the results of agricultural scientific research, enhancing trade exchange of agricultural plant and animal products, exchanging experiences and intensifying cooperation to confront climate change. Cooperation in the fields of water, preventing floods and desertification was also discussed.
The Prime Minister asserted the need to carry out joint projects that take into the consideration the resources and capabilities available in both countries and to take all steps that contribute to expanding cooperation and achieving self-sufficiency.
For his part, the Sudanese Minister hailed the historical relations between Syria and Sudan, stressing his country’s desire to strengthen these relations in different fields.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad also received Al-Bishri and the accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed aspects of cooperation, including the executive program for cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture in Syria, which was signed earlier today.
The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations in various fields.
Cooperation between Syria and Sudan in the water field was the focus of another meeting between the Syrian Minister of Water Resources Hussein Makhlouf and Al-Bushra. The two sides stressed the importance of achieving optimal investment of surface and groundwater resources, benefiting from the experiences of the two countries and exchanging expertise.
Director General of the Arab Center for Studies of Dry Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) Nasr al-Din al-Obaid, who attended the meeting, noted the importance of focusing on conducting and supporting agricultural research with the aim of developing varieties of crop seeds that are resistant to droughts and climate changes.
Executive program for Agricultural cooperation signed
The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform signed an executive program for cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Sudan for a period of two years.
The program includes enhancing cooperation between agricultural research centers in the two countries and exchanging the results of agricultural scientific research and investment in forests, in addition to enhancing trade exchange of agricultural plant and animal products.
