Symposium on Media’s Role in National Reconciliation

DAMASCUS, (ST)_The Journalist Union, Damascus branch, held on Wednesday a symposium on media’s role in activating dialogue and national reconciliation.

Participants affirmed the importance of strengthening the role of media in enhancing the national reconciliation and dialogue as it is the only way to solve the ongoing crisis.

Omar Ousi, Head of the National Reconciliation Committee at the Parliament, explained the role of the committee in activating national dialogue, attaining settlement and national reconciliation in addition to following-up the files of detainees, abductees and missing persons.

He affirmed that efforts are being exerted to make 2015 the year of peaceful settlement and national reconciliation in Syria.

Ousi announced that the meeting of the central committee of national reconciliation will be held soon. He confirmed that the committee has succeeded in achieving many reconciliation cases and failed in other ones.

He pointed out that the committee had received promises from the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong to invite national reconciliation members to visit European Parliament and some European countries to explain Syria’s stances towards the countries conspiring on the country.

For his part, Elias Murad, Head of the Journalists Union, said that the reconciliation contributes to helping those who have been displaced from their towns and villages by armed terrorist organizations to return to their homeland Syria.
