Bratislava – The Syrian Tishreen University has signed cooperation agreements with the Slovak universities of economics, technology and agriculture. The agreements aim at boosting scientific, academic and research cooperation, at exchanging experiences and visits and at carrying out joint future projects.
The agreements were signed on Friday in Bratislava for the Syrian side by Rector of Tishreen University Bassam Hasan.
Hasan presented a detailed review about the history of Tishreen University, its programs, work and projects, stressing that the illegal economic sanctions imposed by Washington and the West on Syria have affected the lives of the Syrians and impeded the country’s efforts to face the repercussions of the earthquake that hit Syria last February.
In a statement to SANA correspondent in Prague, Rector of the Slovak University of Economics Ferdinand Dano stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination with Tishreen University in different fields, expressing the university’s willingness to provide the required assistance to enhance this cooperation.
He condemned the western sanctions imposed on Syria, affirming that these coercive measures have negatively affected education, medical sector and all walks of life in Syria, urging the international community to work as to lift these sanctions immediately.
He said that he is proud of having Syrian students studying in the Slovak universities and working hard to complete their academic achievement.
For his part, Rector of the Slovak University of Technology Oliver Moravčík underlined the importance of maintaining contacts with Tishreen University, particularly in the fields of studies and visits, hailing the distinguished history of the Syrian universities.
He also stressed the need to lift the western sanctions imposed on the Syrians and to provide humanitarian assistance to the quake affected people in Syria a way from politicization.
The Rector of the Slovak University of Agriculture also called for lifting the economic blockade on Syria and for not politicizing humanitarian aid.
