Syria’s Rugby Team participates in the Arab Championship in UAE

The Syrian national rugby team will participate in the Arab Championship, which will kick off on Saturday in the United Arab Emirates, in men and women categories.

Our national team plays in the men’s category within the group that includes the teams of Tunisia, the Emirates, Palestine and Sudan, while our women’s team plays in the group that includes the national teams of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Jordan and the Emirates.

The tournament will be held in a league system for one stage.

The men’s team was supported by player Karim Musa Youssef, 27, who plays for the Chilean club Old Rits, which is one of the distinguished rugby clubs, and who achieved remarkable results within this team in many local tournaments in Chile.

In a statement to SANA, Youssef said: “I started playing rugby 14 years ago in the Chilean club Protoment, and I am currently playing with the first team in the rugby league. I will joint the Syrian national team in the Arab Championship, which is a good opportunity to transfer the skills I have gained in this sport to my country’s national team

Youssef added “rugby in Chile is one of the advanced games, and it has a wide audience and my ambition is to make a global career, which is a goal that is not far away. Rugby is an enjoyable sport and it is practiced by adults and children and based on team spirit. It’s played by two teams and requires specific skills and techniques that are acquired through training over time.”

Youssef expressed his happiness at playing with his country’s national team in the Arab Championship, indicating that he will do his best together with his colleagues to achieve good results and advanced positions.

Our team, participating in the tournament in the men category, includes Osama Haiba, Omran Ajeeneh, Muhannad Sham, Maher Al-Nabulsi, Ammar Bouzo, Hassan Barakat, Karim Musa Youssef, Fadi Jarjour, Moayad Maarawi, Hussein Diop, Sameh Ramadan and Malath Lutfi, led by Tunisian coach Dhafer Al-Qazah.

As for our women’s team, it includes Sarah Abdel-Baqi, Raghad Abu Ammar, Al-Yamama Abu Ras, Doha Melhem, Luna Al-Samran, Ruba Rifa’a, Raneem Al-Safadi, Nicole Al-Darawi, Alaa Sareeddin, Nevin Al-Ghadban, Hala Al-Awar and Amal Nasr, led by Argentine coach Maria Carolina Bravo.
