The Syrian weightlifting team is participating in the Asian Junior and Youth Championship, which is being held in the Indian capital, Delhi, and will last until the sixth of next month, with three players: Muhammad al-Kateb, Ahmed al-Shamaa and Ali Muhammad.
The player Muhammad Al-Kateb is competing in the championship within the 81 kg weight category, Ahmed Al-Shamaa within the 89 kg weight category and Ali Muhammad within the over 102 kg weight category.
In a statement to SANA, head of the Weightlifting Federation, Hassanein Al-Sheikh, said: The competitive level of the championship is strong, with the presence of distinguished countries in this game, such as India, Iran, South Korea, Vietnam and Uzbekistan. He noted that the Syrian players have the determination to compete strongly and win medals, and raise the Syrian flag.
The player Ali Muhammad won the gold medal in the World Championship for the U-17 category, which was held in the Albanian capital, Tirana, in the over 102 kg weight competitions. Ahmed Al-Shamaa won the bronze medal for the weight of 89 kg, while Muhammad Al-Kateb achieved the sixth place in the 81 kg weight competitoins in the same tournament.
