Syrian Publishers Union boycotts Frankfurt International Book Fair due to the Fair’s administration’s bias against the Palestinian people
Damascus – The Syrian Publishers Union has decided to boycott Frankfurt International Book Fair due to the position and bias of its administration against the Arab and Palestinian people.
In a statement on Saturday, the union condemned the Zionist occupation’s brutal practices against the people in Gaza and its violations against the countries that support the Palestinian cause.
The union called for unified Arab stance to stop the crimes being committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians.
Head of the Syrian Publishers Union Haitham Al-Hafez said in a statement to SANA that the Executive Office of the Publishers Union decided to boycott the Frankfurt International Book Fair due to the blatant persistence of the fair’s administration in cooperation with the usurping Israeli entity and due to its negative attitude towards what is happening in Palestine.
He pointed out that Western countries apply double standard policies and don’t deal with the Palestinian issue in a just way.
He clarified that the Union’s decision to boycott the fair expresses a stand of solidarity with the Palestinian Arab people and the Arab nation’s causes, specifically the Palestinian cause.
In the same context, the Arab Publishers Union decided to withdraw its participation in Frankfurt Book Fair 2023, regretting the fair’s administration’s position on the Palestinian cause, after it canceled a ceremony honoring the Palestinian writer Adnia Shibli by awarding her a prize for her novel “A Simple Detail”.
