Syrian mothers embody the real meaning of sacrifice

Hama, (ST) – Syrian mothers are like the fertile land that gives limitlessly. They always spread love and peace, tenderly care for their children, and actively help their community in all aspects of administrative and voluntary work.

Mrs. Linda Flom, 74-year-old woman, from Hama Governorate, is one of the models of the working Syrian women and the giving mothers who worked hard to establish herself as a leading example of creative Syria women and gave beyond her capacity to produce an educated family.

Flom told SANA reporter how she started her career as an employee at the Central Bank of Syria and joined the Federation of Trade Unions and the former Women’s Union and moved between the offices of the trade unions and the provincial council, and during those years she gave birth to three children.

After the age of retirement, Flom joined the Nour Al-Huda Orthodox Association for Orphan Care and Charitable Works, and was elected president of the association in 2019.

Flom added that the association includes an orphanage, a kindergarten, and a dispensary with a sewing workshop to rehabilitate and train women and then employ them so tgat they can help their husbands, because “the woman who works in these difficult circumstances becomes an effective economic member of her family”.

Flom said that her husband had a major role in her career and in every position she reached, and she performed her duty to the fullest with his help. She pointed out that she was able to accurately organize and divide her time and efforts between her family and her work, because “whoever builds a good family builds a healthy homeland”.

Mrs. Loris Makdisi, a 54-year-old woman, succeeded in being an example of a distinguished mother who suffered from the loss of mother and brotherhood, yet continued her mission and presented many humanitarian initiatives.

Makdisi is a mother of three children, and she believes that motherhood cannot be confined to the family only, but rather it is a message of giving, and that the Syrian women are influential in charitable work towards every needy person. She said that her sense of responsibility prompted her to contribute to providing help and assistance, especially in the light of the growing needs in society.

Makdisi confirmed that the father is the source of support and safety, but the mother is source of peace and light in the house. She added that her husband has always been the biggest supporter of her work, as he gave her the space of freedom to work in the charitable field and helped her in bringing up their children.
